Microscopic Colitis (MC) 7
Like ulcerative colitis (UC), microscopic colitis affects the colon and rectum, however the inflammation of the intestine lining is only visible when the tissue is viewed through a microscope. The main symptom of MC is chronic, non-bloody watery diarrhoea, which can lead to dehydration. Unlike UC, the diarrhoea does not contain blood because the lining of the bowel is not ulcerated. Other symptoms that may come and go include abdominal pain, weight loss and fatigue. Treatment can help relieve ongoing symptoms or flare ups and maintain remission.
